The Cougar Eliminator and the GTE got all the press , but any Cougar could have virtually any engine from a 289 cid 195 bhp to 427 cid 390 bhp. A 302, 390 and a 428 were also available. Engine codes were the fifth digit in the VIN. The engine number is on front left side near the crankcase breather pipe. The VIN number is visible on the dash through the windshield.
